football

Football refers to a number of team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball to score a goal. Unqualified, the word football is understood to refer to whichever form of football is the most popular in the regional context in which the word appears. Sports commonly called 'football' in certain places include: association football (known as soccer in some countries); gridiron football (specifically American football or Canadian football); Australian rules football; rugby football (either rugby league or rugby union); and Gaelic football. These different variations of football are known as football codes.

El fútbol o futbol (del inglés británico football), también conocido como balompié, es un deporte de equipo jugado entre dos conjuntos de once jugadores cada uno y algunos árbitros que se ocupan de que las normas se cumplan correctamente. Es ampliamente considerado el deporte más popular del mundo, pues lo practican unos 270 millones de personas.

American football is een competitieve teamsport. In de Verenigde Staten en Canada gebruikt men de term football en in andere delen van de wereld wordt de sport ook wel gridiron football genoemd. Het Canadian football heeft iets afwijkende spelregels. Het doel van het spel is om punten te scoren door de bal in de end zone van de tegenstander te brengen. Punten kunnen gescoord worden door de bal over de doellijn van de end zone te dragen, door de bal te gooien naar een medespeler in de end zone of door de bal tussen de doelpalen in de end zone te trappen. De winnaar is het team met de meest gescoorde punten.

Le football (dans la langue orale, par apocope, le foot), ou soccer (en Amérique du Nord) est un sport collectif qui se joue principalement au pied avec un ballon sphérique. Il oppose deux équipes de onze joueurs dans un stade, que ce soit sur un terrain gazonné ou sur un plancher. L'objectif de chaque camp est de mettre le ballon dans le but adverse, sans utiliser les bras, et de le faire plus souvent que l'autre équipe.
