Formwork is the term given to either temporary or permanent molds into which concrete or similar materials are poured. In the context of concrete construction, the falsework supports the shuttering moulds.

Die Schalung ist die Gussform, in die Frischbeton zur Herstellung von Betonbauteilen eingebracht wird. Nach dem Erhärten des Betons wird sie im Regelfall entfernt. Die Schalung ist das entsprechende Negativ zum Betonbauteil. Die Geometrie der Schalung wird im Schalplan, die Konstruktion im Schalungsplan dargestellt. Dabei hat Schalung als solches entsprechend DIN EN 12812 ausschließlich formgebenden Charakter. Tragende Elemente auch bei industriell vorgefertigten Teilen sind im Sinne der Norm Traggerüste. Durch den Begriff Schalung werden nur flächige Verkleidungen der tragenden Konstruktion (Traggerüst) erfasst.

Le coffrage est une enceinte provisoire destinée à contenir un matériau de construction (béton, pisé) utile pour maintenir ce matériau en place, en attendant sa prise puis son durcissement. Le coffrage a pour but de réaliser des ouvrages aux formes définies par la surface interne du coffrage.

Szalowanie, zalecana nazwa deskowanie (inne nazwy potoczne: deskówka, szalówka) – rodzaj formy, służącej do nadawania kształtu mieszance betonowej tymczasowa konstrukcja z różnych sortymentów drewna lub płyt (płyty mogą być np. ze sklejki wodoodpornej, wiórów drewnianych lub metalu). Deskowanie stosowane jest najczęściej przy wykonywaniu konstrukcji betonowych lub żelbetowych. Może być także wykorzystywane przy produkcji prefabrykatów, aczkolwiek najczęściej przy prefabrykacji mamy do czynienia z różnego rodzaju formami wykonanymi zazwyczaj ze stali lub aluminium.
