Furniture is the mass noun for the movable objects intended to support various human activities such as seating (e.g., chairs, stools and sofas) and sleeping (e.g., beds). Furniture is also used to hold objects at a convenient height for work (as horizontal surfaces above the ground, such as tables and desks), or to store things (e.g., cupboards and shelves). Furniture can be a product of design and is considered a form of decorative art. In addition to furniture's functional role, it can serve a symbolic or religious purpose. It can be made from many materials, including metal, plastic, and wood. Furniture can be made using a variety of woodworking joints which often reflect the local culture.

Die Begriffe Möbel und Mobiliar (von ‚beweglich‘) bezeichnen Einrichtungsgegenstände vorwiegend in Innenräumen wie Wohnungen, Geschäften, Büroräumen oder anderen Nutzungseinheiten, sowie im Außenbereich (z.B. Gartenmöbel). Der Begriff steht somit im Gegensatz zu unbeweglichen Dingen (Immobilien), die mit dem Boden oder baulichen Anlagen fest verbunden bzw. verwachsen sind.

Meubilair is een verzamelnaam voor allerhande meubels die worden gebruikt in en om het huis, een kasteel of een kerk. Meubels zijn inrichtingsvoorwerpen en worden ontworpen door meubelontwerpers en gemaakt door meubelmakers en meubelfabrikanten. Het woord meubel is afkomstig van het woord 'mobiel', waarmee de verplaatsbaarheid van het voorwerp tot uitdrukking wordt gebracht.

Meble – sprzęty użytkowe przeznaczone do wyposażenia wnętrz mieszkalnych i publicznych. W odróżnieniu od stałych elementów wyposażenia wnętrz (schody, boazeria) meble są ruchomościami. Oprócz cech użytkowych meble posiadają też walory dekoracyjne, reprezentacyjne.
