generalisation

A generalization (or generalisation) is a concept in the inductive sense of that word, or an extension of the concept to less-specific criteria. Generalizations posit the existence of a domain or set of elements, as well as one or more common characteristics shared by those elements (thus creating a conceptual model). As such, they are the essential basis of all valid deductive inferences. The process of verification is necessary to determine whether a generalization holds true for any given situation.

Eine Allaussage ist eine Aussage über alle Elemente eines bestimmten Gegenstandsbereichs, zum Beispiel die Aussage „Alle Menschen sind sterblich.“ Synonym werden modern Bezeichnungen wie Universalaussage, universale Aussage, universelle Aussage, Allsatz, Generalisation oder Generalisierung (als Ergebnis) verwendet. La généralisation est un procédé qui consiste à abstraire un ensemble de concepts ou d'objets en négligeant les détails de sorte qu'ils puissent être considérés de façon comparable. Si la généralisation s'effectue de façon discrète, elle s'accompagne d'une transition à un niveau où la granularité des éléments de la structure considérée est plus grande. À l'inverse, la spécialisation permet de se focaliser davantage sur certains objets ayant des caractéristiques communes.

Generalisering är inom vetenskap utökandet av en teori eller modell till att gälla under bredare villkor. En överförd betydelse i allmänt språk betecknar ett övergripande antagande, som kan ge missvisande information om enskilda fall.
