globin

The globins are a family of globular proteins, which are thought to share a common ancestor. These proteins all incorporate the globin fold, a series of eight alpha helical segments. Two prominent members of this family include myoglobin and hemoglobin, which both bind the heme (also haem) prosthetic group. Both of these proteins are reversible oxygen binders.

Als globuläre Proteine (auch Sphäroproteine) werden Proteine bezeichnet, die eine mehr oder weniger kugelförmige Tertiär- oder Quartärstruktur aufweisen. Ihre unpolaren Seitenketten ragen ins Molekülinnere, die polaren hingegen nach außen und führen so zur Wasserlöslichkeit. Es handelt sich um einen veralteten Begriff, der aus dem 19. Jahrhundert stammt und durch die Einteilung der Proteine nach Proteindomänen ersetzt wurde.

Dva prominentna clana ove familije su Mioglobin i Hemoglobin. Ova dva proteina sadrze Hem prosteticku groupu, putem koje oni reverzibilno vezuju kiseonik.

Globulära proteiner (latin: globulus betyder liten boll) är en av proteinets två huvudtyper. Denna består av sfärliknande proteiner som är, mer eller mindre, vattenlösliga. Den här huvudegenskapen hjälper till att skilja dem från fiberproteiner (den andra huvudtypen), vilken är praktiskt olösbar.
