government

A government is the system by which a state or community is controlled. In the Commonwealth of Nations, the word government is also used more narrowly to refer to the collective group of people that exercises executive authority in a state. This usage is analogous to what is called an "administration" in American English. Furthermore, especially in American English, the concepts of the state and the government may be used synonymously to refer to the person or group of people exercising authority over a politically organized territory. Finally, government is also sometimes used in English as a synonym for governance.

Die Regierung ist eine der höchsten Institutionen eines Staates. Sie leitet, lenkt und beaufsichtigt die Politik nach innen und außen. Eine Regierung besteht in der Regel aus einem Regierungschef und mehreren Ministern mit jeweils eigenen Ministerien. In einem präsidentiellen System wie zum Beispiel den Vereinigten Staaten ist das Staatsoberhaupt zugleich Regierungschef.

Een regering is een orgaan van de staatkundige organisatie, belast met de uitvoerende macht voor een bepaald grondgebied. Met andere woorden: de regering heeft de bevoegdheid om de wetgeving tot uitvoering te brengen binnen de grenzen van het grondgebied waarover ze die bevoegdheid heeft.

Le gouvernement est une institution qui exerce le pouvoir exécutif au sein d'une entité politique. Dans un régime parlementaire tel que celui de la France, le gouvernement est responsable politiquement devant l'Assemblée nationale. Le gouvernement décide et entreprend les actions nécessaires à la conduite de l'État.
