handstand

A handstand is the act of supporting the body in a stable, inverted vertical position by balancing on the hands. In a basic handstand the body is held straight with arms and legs fully extended, with hands spaced approximately shoulder-width apart. There are many variations of handstands, but in all cases a handstand performer must possess adequate balance and upper body strength.

Een handstand is de positie waarin een mens geheel ondersteboven, namelijk op zijn handen staat. De armen zijn hierbij gestrekt langs het hoofd, en de benen steken recht de lucht in. De handstand wordt onder andere toegepast in het turnen, bij vechtsporten en als yoga-houding.

Käsiseisonnassa tekijä seisoo suorana käsillään, jalat ylöspäin. Käsiseisonnan tekijällä pitäisi olla yleensä selkä suorana, ettei selkä venähdä. Käsiseisontoja on monenlaisia, mutta yleisin on olla suorana. Käsiseisonnassa voi seistä myös yhdellä kädellä. Käsiseisonnasta voi myös lähteä kävelemään käsillä.
