A blood cell, also called a haematopoietic cell, hemocyte, or hematocyte, is a cell produced through hematopoiesis and found mainly in the blood. In mammals, these fall into three general categories:

• Red blood cells – Erythrocytes
• White blood cells – Leukocytes
• Platelets – Thrombocytes.
