Homo is the genus that comprises the species Homo sapiens, which includes modern humans, as well as several extinct species classified as ancestral to or closely related to modern humans—as for examples Homo habilis and Homo neanderthalensis. The genus is about 2.8 million years old; it first appeared as its earliest species Homo habilis, which emerged from the genus Australopithecus, which itself had previously split from the lineage of Pan, the chimpanzees.

HOMO and LUMO are acronyms for highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital, respectively. The energy difference between the HOMO and LUMO is termed the HOMO–LUMO gap. HOMO and LUMO are sometimes referred to as frontier orbitals. The difference in energy between these two frontier orbitals can be used to predict the strength and stability of transition metal complexes, as well as the colors they produce in solution.

Homo est le genre qui réunit l'Homo sapiens et les espèces apparentées. Le genre semble être apparu au Pliocène, il y a environ d'années.

Les orbitales frontières sont deux types d'orbitales moléculaires (OM) particulières: l'orbitale HOMO (acronyme de highest occupied molecular orbital), en français HO (pour Haute Occupée) qui est l'orbitale moléculaire la plus haute en énergie occupée par au moins un électron, et l'orbitale LUMO (acronyme de lowest unoccupied molecular orbital), en français BV (pour Basse Vacante) qui est l'orbitale la plus basse en énergie non occupée par un électron.
