Hydrops fetalis is a
condition in the
fetus characterized by an accumulation of fluid, or
edema, in at least two fetal compartments. By comparison, hydrops allantois or hydrops amnion are an accumulation of excessive fluid in the
allantoic or
amniotic space respectively.
