imitate

Imitation (from Latin imitatio, "a copying, imitation") is an advanced behavior whereby an individual observes and replicates another's behavior. Imitation is also a form of social learning that leads to the "development of traditions, and ultimately our culture. It allows for the transfer of information (behaviours, customs, etc.) between individuals and down generations without the need for genetic inheritance." The word imitation can be applied in many contexts, ranging from animal training to international politics.

Die Nachahmung wurde in der Soziologie bereits 1890 von Gabriel Tarde als zentrales Konzept entwickelt.

Naśladownictwo lub imitacja jest to jeden z procesów uczenia się zachowań i działań, w wyniku którego jednostka naśladująca internalizuje wzory kulturowe, a z punktu widzenia memetyki, przyswaja nowe memy. Proces ten występuje zarówno u ludzi, jak i innych zwierząt, np. u ptaków. W przypadku ludzi jest to typowe zjawisko zachodzące podczas socjalizacji pierwotnej, gdy dzieci naśladują gesty, słowa czy ton głosu znaczących innych.
