infantry

The infantry is the branch of a military force that fights on foot. As the troops who are intended to engage, fight, and defeat the enemy in face-to-face combat, they bear the brunt of warfare and typically suffer the greatest number of casualties. Historically, as the oldest branch of the combat arms, the infantry are the tip of the spear of a modern army, and continually undergo training that is more physically stressful and psychologically demanding than that of any other branch of the combat arms.

Als Infanterie bezeichnet man sich zu Fuß bewegende und kämpfende, mit Handwaffen ausgerüstete Soldaten der Kampftruppe der Landstreitkräfte. Obwohl der Begriff Infanterie sich erst in der frühen Neuzeit einbürgerte, wird er auch für entsprechende Soldaten früherer Epochen verwendet.

De infanterie zijn de militairen die te voet vechten. Een synoniem is voetvolk of grondtroep. Infanterie vormt met cavalerie en artillerie de belangrijkste onderdelen van klassieke legers.

Piechota (lub infanteria) – wojsko walczące pieszo. Dawniej przemieszczało się pieszo, dzisiaj wykorzystuje inne środki transportu. Znane i wykorzystywane od starożytności do czasów współczesnych jako jeden z podstawowych składników armii. Piechota zawsze walczyła w najbliższej odległości wroga.
