informant

An informant is a person who provides privileged information about a person or organization to an agency. The term is usually used within the law enforcement world, where they are officially known as confidential or criminal informants (CI), and can often refer pejoratively to the supply of information without the consent of the other parties with the intent of malicious, personal or financial gain. However, the term is used in politics, industry and academia.

Ein Informant ist eine Person, die ihre speziellen Kenntnisse an andere weitergibt; sie ist aufgrund der Informantentätigkeit und Informationsweitergabe nicht äquivalent zu einem Whistleblower („Skandalaufdecker“). In vielen Bereichen wird Informant neutral verwendet, in der Politik ist er eher negativ besetzt.

Spitzel ist ein – in der Regel negativ belegter – Ausdruck für eine Art von Informant, der Spionage auf niederer gesellschaftlicher Ebene bzw. nicht in Ausübung einer amtlichen Funktion ausführt.

Een spion is iemand die op heimelijke en soms illegale (clandestiene) wijze inlichtingen vergaart. Spionnen kunnen werken voor een overheid, maar ook voor bedrijven. De term spion wordt vooral in de dagelijkse populaire taal gebruikt.

Un indicateur ou informateur est, dans le domaine de la police et du renseignement, un auxiliaire qui fournit des informations aux services, soit « bénévolement », soit en l'échange d'une certaine impunité (poursuite de son propre trafic, élimination d'un concurrent…), d'un gain financier, d'un assouplissement de leur régime carcéral (meilleur cantinement, rapprochement géographique avec leur famille) ou d'un service (obtention de titres de séjour).
