The Jig is a form of lively folk dance in compound meter, as well as the accompanying dance tune. It developed in 16th-century England, and was quickly adopted on the Continent where it eventually became the final movement of the mature Baroque dance suite (the French gigue; Italian and Spanish giga). Today it is most associated with Irish dance music, Scottish country dance and the Métis people in Canada. Jigs were originally in duple compound meter, (e.g., 12/8 time), but have been adapted to a variety of time signatures, by which they are often classified into groups, including light jigs, slip jigs, single jigs, double jigs, and treble jigs.

Wajig is a simplified wrapper to Debian's package management system dpkg/APT. Wajig provides the functionality of apt-get, dpkg, dpkg-deb, apt-cache and other tools. These tools launch as a subprocess. Wajig also provides extra functionality beyond that of the stock apt and dpkg tools. For example, the command wajig sizes provides a listing of all installed packages and the amount of disk space they require, from smallest to largest.

Die Jig (frz. gigue, fem.) oder der Jig (irisch an port, masc.) ist sowohl ein lebhafter Volkstanz der gesamten Britischen Inseln als auch die zugrundeliegende Melodie. Im 16. Jahrhundert war er in England weit verbreitet, erst später wurde er zum typischen Tanz Irlands. Im Irish Folk ist die Jig nach dem Reel heute noch die beliebteste Tune-Art. Im Barock fand die Gigue als Teil der Suite auch Eingang in die Kunstmusik.

De gigue is een zeer snelle dans, waarvan het ritme een veelvoud is van drie. De naam gigue is vermoedelijk afkomstig van het Italiaanse woord "giga" (viool), dat ook de naam is van een driesnarig instrument uit de 12e en 13e eeuw, met als karakteristieke eigenschap twee cirkels die in de vorm van een 8 uitgesneden zijn in de klankkast.
