Liberty, in philosophy, involves free will as contrasted with determinism. In politics, liberty consists of the social and political freedoms enjoyed by all citizens. In theology, liberty is freedom from the bondage of sin. Generally, liberty seems to be distinct from freedom in that freedom concerns itself primarily, if not exclusively, with the ability to do as one wills and what one has the power to do; whereas liberty also takes into account the rights of all involved. As such, liberty can be thought of as freedom limited by rights, and therefore cannot be abused.

Liberty! The American Revolution is a six-hour documentary miniseries about the Revolutionary War, and the instigating factors, that brought about the United States' independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. It was first broadcast in 1997 and Re-release on June 21, 2004 to July 26, 2004.

Le terme de Liberté dans le langage commun, offre la caractéristique de présenter de multiples faces selon les champs dans lequel on le place. Il suffit de se reporter au Dictionnaire Larousse pour voir les nombreuses définitions qui en procèdent. On trouvera dans l'article général de WP Liberté quelques-unes des multiples occurrences de ce concept. D'un point de vue strictement philosophiques on détaille trois acceptions :

1. métaphysique, comme relative à un existant qui est causa sui (cause de soi);
2. éthique, concernant les actions humaines, relatives à la liberté individuelle, ou libre arbitre;
3. anthropologique, parce qu'elle concerne l'homo sapiens dans sa possibilité, de se réaliser par sa propre volonté.
