limbic

The limbic system (or paleomammalian brain) is a complex set of brain structures located on both sides of the thalamus, right under the cerebrum. It is not a separate system but a collection of structures from the telencephalon, diencephalon, and mesencephalon. It includes the olfactory bulbs, hippocampus, amygdala, anterior thalamic nuclei, fornix, columns of fornix, mammillary body, septum pellucidum, habenular commissure, cingulate gyrus, parahippocampal gyrus, limbic cortex, and limbic midbrain areas.

Das limbische System ist eine Funktionseinheit des Gehirns, die der Verarbeitung von Emotionen und der Entstehung von Triebverhalten dient. Dem limbischen System werden auch intellektuelle Leistungen zugesprochen. Die Sichtweise, bestimmte Funktionen (wie die Triebe) nur auf das limbische System zu beziehen und als vom Rest des Gehirns funktionell abgegrenzt zu betrachten, gilt heute als veraltet. Andere kortikale und nicht-kortikale Strukturen des Gehirns üben einen enormen Einfluss auf das limbische System aus. Die Entstehung von Emotion und Triebverhalten muss also immer als Zusammenspiel vieler Gehirnanteile gesehen werden und darf nicht dem Limbischen System allein zugesprochen werden.

Het limbische systeem (Latijn limbus = rand of zoom) is een groep structuren in de hersenen die betrokken zijn bij emotie, motivatie, genot en het emotioneel geheugen. Het is (evolutionair gezien) een van de oudste delen van de hersenen maar bevat ook enkele nieuwere structuren. Het limbische systeem is onderdeel van de grote hersenen.

Le système limbique est le nom donné à un groupe de structures du cerveau jouant un rôle très important dans le comportement et en particulier, dans diverses émotions comme l'agressivité, la peur, le plaisir ainsi que la formation de la mémoire. On considère généralement que les principales composantes du système limbique sont les structures corticales et subcorticales suivantes :

• l'hippocampe, notamment impliqué dans la formation de la mémoire à long terme ;
• l'amygdale, notamment impliquée dans l'agressivité et la peur ;
• la circonvolution (ou gyrus) cingulaire ;
• le fornix ;
• l'hypothalamus.

Układ limbiczny, układ rąbkowy, układ brzeżny – układ struktur korowych i podkorowych mózgu, biorący udział w regulacji zachowań emocjonalnych oraz niektórych stanów emocjonalnych takich jak zadowolenie, przyjemność czy strach. Jest istotny dla procesu zapamiętywania oraz motywacji danego osobnika. Wpływa na pewne czynności wegetatywne. Pierwotnie był kojarzony wyłącznie ze zmysłem węchu.
