militarist

Militarism is the belief or desire of a government or people that a country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests. It may also imply the glorification of the ideals of a professional military class and the "predominance of the armed forces in the administration or policy of the state" (see also: stratocracy and military junta).

Als Militarismus wird die Dominanz militärischer Wertvorstellungen und Interessen in der Politik und im gesellschaftlichen Leben bezeichnet, wie sie etwa durch die einseitige Betonung des Rechts des Stärkeren und die Vorstellung, Kriege seien notwendig oder unvermeidbar, zum Ausdruck kommen oder durch ein strikt hierarchisches, auf Befehl und Gehorsam beruhendes Denken vermittelt werden.

De term militarisme betekent, in culturele zin, een voorliefde voor militair vertoon zoals uniformen, wapens, onderscheidingen, parades, orden, rituelen, hiërarchieën, rangen en titels, vlaggen, heldenverering, discipline en het principe van bevelen en gehoorzamen. Ook het kleden van kinderen in militaire uniformen is in vele ogen een kenmerk van militarisme.

Le militarisme est une idéologie politique, ou du moins un courant de pensée, qui prône la primauté de la force militaire dans les relations et dans l'organisation intraétatique. Il a connu de nombreuses incarnations au cours de l'Histoire. Ses tenants affirment que l'armée est le meilleur instrument au service de la nation.
