monochrome

Monochrome describes paintings, drawings, design, or photographs in one color or values of one color. A monochromatic object or image reflects colors in shades of limited colors or hues. Images using only shades of grey (with or without black and/or white) are called grayscale or black-and-white. However, scientifically speaking, monochromatic light refers to visible light of a narrow band of wavelengths (see spectral color).

Monochromatisch licht is licht van één enkele golflengte. Iets dat monochromatisch is, heeft één enkele kleur. In de natuurkunde wordt het woord gebruikt voor elektromagnetische straling van één bepaalde golflengte. Een monochrome monitor kan maar één kleur afbeelden, zoals groen, wit of oranje. In de kunst is een monochroom werk een eenkleurig kunstwerk.

Le terme monochrome signifie au sens littéral : « qui est d'une seule couleur ». En effet, le mot vient du grec : mono qui signifie « seul », et chroma, la couleur. Il s'oppose au terme polychrome ou (en couleurs) : « qui est de plusieurs couleurs ».

Monochrome è un album della band statunitense Helmet, pubblicato nel 2006 dalla Warcon Enterprises. Questo è il terzo album della band ad essere registrato come un trio, dato che al cantante e chitarrista Page Hamilton, ed a Chris Traynor (chitarrista, ma nella registrazione di questo album in veste di bassista) si è aggiunto il batterista Mike Jost. Anche il bassista Jeremy Chatelain (che sostituì Frank Bello durante il tour di Size Matters) si è unito alla band, ma non in tempo per registrare l'album. Il disco è stato prodotto in collaborazione con Wharton Tiers, che produsse anche i due primi lavori della band, Strap It On e Meantime. I pezzi Money Shot e Bury Me fanno parte della produzione dell'altra band di Hamilton, i Gandhi, ma per l'occasione sono stati nuovamente registrati. Il primo singolo estratto dall'album è Gone, per il quale è stato prodotto anche un video.

Monochromatyczność (mono – jeden, chroma – kolor) – promieniowanie elektromagnetyczne o ściśle określonej częstotliwości (długości fali). Idealnie monochromatyczna jest fala o niezmieniającej się częstotliwości i stałej amplitudzie, dlatego idealnej monochromatycznej fali nie nie można uzyskać.
