Mormons are a religious and cultural group related to Mormonism, the principal branch of the Latter Day Saint movement of Restorationist Christianity, which began with Joseph Smith in upstate New York during the 1820s. After Smith's death in 1844, the Mormons followed Brigham Young to what would become the Utah Territory. Today, most Mormons are understood to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Some Mormons are also either independent or non-practicing. The center of Mormon cultural influence is in Utah, and North America has more Mormons than any other continent, though the majority of Mormons live outside the United States.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS Church or, informally, the Mormon Church) is a Christian restorationist church that is considered by its followers to be the restoration of the original church founded by Jesus Christ. The church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has established congregations (called wards or branches) and built temples worldwide. According to the church, it has over 85,000 missionaries and a membership of over 15 million. It is ranked by the National Council of Churches as the fourth-largest Christian denomination in the United States. It is the largest denomination in the Latter Day Saint movement founded by Joseph Smith during the period of religious revival known as the Second Great Awakening.

Mormon ist ein zentraler Prophet aus dem nach ihm benannten Buch Mormon, der nach dem Glauben der Mormonen im 4. Jahrhundert nach Christus in Amerika gelebt haben soll, der allerdings bis heute historisch nicht nachgewiesen werden konnte.

Dem Mormonentum werden alle christlichen Glaubensgemeinschaften zugerechnet, die sich neben der Bibel auf das Buch Mormon berufen. Nach mormonischer Überlieferung hat der Prophet Joseph Smith, jr.  das Buch Mormon 1827 von goldenen Platten, die er in den Hügeln Cumorah fand, übersetzt. Die große Mehrheit der mormonischen Konfessionen kennt noch weitere Offenbarungen, die in der Schrift „Lehre und Bündnisse“ zusammengefasst wurden.

De Kerk van Jezus Christus van de Heiligen der Laatste Dagen werd gesticht op 6 april 1830 in de Amerikaanse staat New York. Haar grondlegger was Joseph Smith Jr., die kort daarvoor het Boek van Mormon had gepubliceerd. Aan dit boek ontlenen de leden van de Kerk hun bijnaam mormonen.

L’Église de Jésus-Christ des saints des derniers jours, appelé aussi mormonisme, est une Église chrétienne restaurationniste née dans l'État de New York, aux États-Unis, en 1830 et dont le siège mondial se trouve à Salt Lake City dans l'Utah. Elle est la quatrième plus grande confession chrétienne des États-Unis (6,16 millions de membres). À l'échelle mondiale, elle revendique plus de 15 millions de membres dont 58 000 en France. Elle se considère comme religion révélée, à l'instar du judaïsme, du christianisme et de l'islam.
