muscle spasm

A spasm is a sudden, involuntary contraction of a muscle, a group of muscles, or a hollow organ such as a heart, or a similarly sudden contraction of an orifice. It most commonly refers to a muscle cramp which is often accompanied by a sudden burst of pain, but is usually harmless and ceases after a few minutes. There are a variety of other causes of involuntary muscle contractions, which may be more serious, depending on the cause.

Ein Krampf, Muskelkrampf oder Spasmus ist eine ungewollte und schmerzhafte Muskelanspannung. Eine häufige Ursache für sporttypische Muskelkrämpfe ist Magnesiummangel. Die Ursache von Muskelkrämpfen im Ruhezustand ist meist ein Calciummangel im Blut.

Kurcz, spazm – bezwiedne nadmierne skurcze mięśni poprzecznie prążkowanych lub gładkich, występujące pod wpływem działania różnych bodźców i często powodujące uczucie bólu. Kurcze mięśni poprzecznie prążkowanych mogą być toniczne i kloniczne (drgawki). W kurczach tonicznych występuje przez pewien czas wzmożone napięcie mięśni; w kurczach klonicznych występuje szereg szybko następujących po sobie skurczów mięśniowych oddzielonych krótkimi okresami zwiotczenia.

Spasm är en okontrollerad ryckning i en muskel, muskelgrupp, ett håligt organ eller liknande. Det kan ibland vara kopplat till plötslig smärta men är vanligtvis riskfri och försvinner efter ett par minuter. Spasmer kan också bero på en lång rad medicinska åkommor som exempelvis dystoni.
