The grapheme N (minuscule: n) is a letter in the Czech, Slovak and Turkmen alphabets. It is formed from Latin N with the addition of hácek (cz)/mäkcen (sk) and follows plain N in the alphabet. N and n are at Unicode codepoints U+0147 and U+0148, respectively.

In phonetics, a nasal release is the release of a stop consonant into a nasal. Such sounds are transcribed in the IPA with superscript nasal letters, for example as in English catnip . In English words such as sudden in which historically the tongue made separate contacts with the alveolar ridge for the /d/ and /n/, , many speakers today make only one contact. Machtsverheffen is een wiskundige operatie, die wordt geschreven als xⁿ, waarbij twee getallen, het grondtal of de factor x en de exponent n, betrokken zijn. Wanneer n een positief geheel getal is, komt machtsverheffen overeen met herhaalde vermenigvuldiging; met andere woorden, een product van n factoren van x:

De letter N is de veertiende letter in het moderne Latijnse alfabet. De Semitische Nûn was waarschijnlijk het plaatje van een slang, de klank was /n/ evenals in het Grieks, Etruskisch, Latijn en alle moderne talen. Vermoedelijk namen in Egypte wonende Semieten de letter over van de meest gangbare Egyptische hiëroglief voor slang, die echter werd uitgesproken als de letter J naar het Egyptische woord voor slang, dat klonk als djet. Mogelijk hadden de Semieten een woord voor slang dat begon met een /n/-klank. De naam van de Griekse letter is Nυ of Ny.

N̲, ou N trait souscrit ou N souligné, est un graphème utilisé dans l’Orthographe des langues du Gabon.
