Nomenclature is a system of names or terms, or the rules for forming these terms in a particular field of arts or sciences. The principles of naming vary from the relatively informal conventions of everyday speech to the internationally agreed principles, rules and recommendations that govern the formation and use of the specialist terms used in scientific and other disciplines.

Eine Nomenklatur ( ‚Namensverzeichnis‘) ist eine für bestimmte Bereiche verbindliche Sammlung von Benennungen aus einem bestimmten Themen- oder Anwendungsgebiet. Die Gesamtheit der in einem Fachgebiet gültigen Benennungen bildet eine Terminologie.

Nomenclatuur betekent in het algemeen: naamgeving. Onder wetenschappelijke nomenclatuur verstaat men het op systematische wijze benoemen van allerlei zaken. Zo worden eenduidige namen gegeven aan planten, dieren, chemische stoffen, etc. Dit heeft een eenduidige communicatie als doel: idealiter heeft een wetenschappelijke naam voor iedereen die ermee werkt dezelfde, unieke betekenis. Wetenschappelijke namen worden veel in de taxonomie gebruikt, bij de indeling van levensvormen.

Une nomenclature désigne une instance de classification (code, tableau, liste, règles d'attribution d'identité...) faisant autorité et servant de référence dans le cadre d'une discipline donnée (exemples: la chimie, la biologie, l'astronomie, etc.). La nomenclature est un élément-clé de toute taxonomie.

Nomenklatura partyjna – najogólniej oznacza pracowników aparatu partyjnego (zob. partia komunistyczna) oraz mianowanych przez władze partyjne urzędników i funkcjonariuszy państwa, organizacji społecznych i administracji przemysłowej.
