Octal
The octal numeral system, or oct for short, is the base-8 number system, and uses the digits 0 to 7. Octal numerals can be made from binary numerals by grouping consecutive binary digits into groups of three (starting from the right). For example, the binary representation for decimal 74 is 1001010, which can be grouped into (00)1 001 010 – so the octal representation is 112.

Oktalsystem
Das Oktalsystem (von ‚acht‘) ist ein Stellenwertsystem mit der Basis 8 (daher auch Achtersystem genannt). Es kennt acht Ziffern zur Darstellung einer Zahl: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 und 7.

Octaal
Het octale talstelsel werkt niet zoals het decimale met het grondtal 10 maar met het grondtal 8. Men heeft daarin alleen de beschikking over de cijfers 0 t/m 7.
- voor 8 (decimaal) schrijft men 10 (ofwel 1 x 81 + 0 x 80)
- voor 9 (decimaal) schrijft men 11 (ofwel 1 x 81 + 1 x 80)
- voor 16 (decimaal) schrijft men 20 (ofwel 2 x 81 + 0 x 80)
- enz.

Système octal
