Redox
Redox is a contraction of the name for chemical reduction-oxidation reaction. A reduction reaction always occurs with an oxidation reaction. Redox reactions include all chemical reactions in which atoms have their oxidation state changed; in general, redox reactions involve the transfer of electrons between chemical species. The chemical species from which the electron is stripped is said to have been oxidized, while the chemical species to which the electron is added is said to have been reduced. Oxygen is not necessarily included in such reactions as other chemical species can serve the same function.

Oxidation
Die Oxidation ist eine chemische Reaktion, bei der ein Atom, Ion oder Molekül Elektronen abgibt. Seine Oxidationszahl wird dabei erhöht. Ein anderer Stoff nimmt die Elektronen auf und wird reduziert. Beide Reaktionen zusammen werden als Teilreaktionen einer Redoxreaktion betrachtet.

Redoxreaktion
Eine Redoxreaktion (gesprochen: redóksreaktion; eigentlich: Reduktions-Oxidations-Reaktion) ist eine chemische Reaktion, bei der ein Reaktionspartner Elektronen auf den anderen überträgt. Hierbei findet also eine Elektronenabgabe (Oxidation) durch einen Stoff sowie eine Elektronenaufnahme (Reduktion) statt. Redoxreaktionen sind von grundlegender Bedeutung in der Chemie: Viele Stoffwechsel- und Verbrennungsvorgänge, technische Produktionsprozesse und Nachweisreaktionen basieren auf solchen Elektronenübertragungsreaktionen.

Redoxreactie
Een redoxreactie is een reactie tussen atomen, moleculen en/of ionen waarbij elektronen worden uitgewisseld. De term redox is een samentrekking van de begrippen reductie en oxidatie. Dit soort reacties wordt veel toegepast in batterijen en accu's. Ook roesten is een redoxreactie, namelijk de oxidatie van ijzer.

Réaction d'oxydoréduction
Une réaction d'oxydoréduction ou réaction redox est une réaction chimique au cours de laquelle se produit un échange d'électrons. L'espèce chimique qui capte les électrons est appelée « oxydant » ; celle qui les cède, « réducteur ».
