pacifist

Pacifism is opposition to war, militarism or  violence. The word pacifism was coined by the French peace campaigner Émile Arnaud (1864–1921) and adopted by other peace activists at the tenth Universal Peace Congress in Glasgow in 1901. A related term is ahimsa (to do no harm), which is a core philosophy in Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism. While modern connotations are recent, having been explicated since the 19th century, ancient references abound.

Unter Pazifismus (von lat. pax, „Frieden“, und facere, „machen, tun“) versteht man im weitesten Sinne eine ethische Grundhaltung, die den Krieg prinzipiell ablehnt und danach strebt, bewaffnete Konflikte zu vermeiden, zu verhindern und die Bedingungen für dauerhaften Frieden zu schaffen. Eine strenge Position lehnt jede Form der Gewaltanwendung kategorisch ab und tritt für Gewaltlosigkeit ein. Die gegensätzliche Haltung zum Krieg wird unter dem Antonym Bellizismus dargestellt.

Pacifisme is de filosofie en praxis waarbij geweldloosheid centraal staat en vrede als belangrijk doel wordt nagestreefd. Iemand die het pacifisme aanhangt, heet een pacifist. Een vredesbeweging kan ingegeven zijn door een principieel pacifisme of door meer praktische overwegingen.

Le pacifisme possède deux acceptions possibles incluant l'action des partisans de la paix, ou une doctrine de la non-violence. Bien que reliés, les deux concepts se distinguent du point de vue de la théorie et de la pratique. Le pacifisme est la doctrine et l'action des partisans de la paix ou du rétablissement de la paix. Les socialistes d'avant 1914 (Jean Jaurès), les Zimmerwaldiens durant la Première Guerre mondiale, les opposants aux guerres coloniales ou les partisans de la paix professent un pacifisme qui n'est pas toujours assimilable à la non-violence. La vision du pacifisme associé à une personne refusant le recours à toutes formes de violence est par contre beaucoup plus répandue.

Pacyfizm – ruch społeczno-polityczny dążący do pokoju, potępiający wszelkie wojny (a także przygotowania do nich) bez względu na ich przyczyny. Pacyfiści domagają się ustanowienia trwałego pokoju między narodami. Chcą, by wszelkie konflikty rozwiązywane były zgodnie z literą prawa międzynarodowego bez uciekania się do użycia sił zbrojnych. Znamienny dla pacyfizmu jest jednolity stosunek do każdej z wojen: i tej agresywnej, i tej obronnej, i tej narodowowyzwoleńczej - każda jest potępiana.
