particle

A particle is a minute fragment or quantity of matter. In the physical sciences, the word is used to describe a small  object to which can be ascribed several physical or chemical properties such as volume or mass; subatomic particles such as protons or neutrons; and other elementary particles. The word is rather general in meaning, and is refined as needed by various scientific fields. Something that is composed of particles may be referred to as being particulate. However, the term particulate is most frequently used to refer to pollutants in the Earth's atmosphere, which are a suspension of unconnected particles, rather than a connected particle aggregation.

• eine Wortart oder ein Oberbegriff einiger Wortarten; siehe Partikel (Grammatik)
• im Katholizismus Teil einer gewandelten Hostie, siehe Partikel (Hostie)

Cząstka – bardzo mała ilość (pyłek, okruch) lub stosunkowo niewielka część większej całości (Galaktyka jest cząstką kosmosu). W naukach przyrodniczych (fizyka, chemia) cząstka oznacza mały fragment materii (np. cząstka kurzu), który ma zwarty kształt, w odróżnieniu od nici czy włókna.

Partikel har flera betydelser:

• kallas en liten del av något, till exempel sotpartikel. Partiklar i vatten kan uppträda dels i fast fas, dels i lösning (t ex salt).
• kallas en del materia utan geometriskt omfång, se subatomär partikel, elementarpartikel och partikeldynamik.
• är också småord i språk, se partikel (lingvistik).
