pasha

Pasha or pascha (, ), formerly anglicized as bashaw, was a higher rank in the Ottoman Empire political and military system, typically granted to governors, generals and dignitaries and others. As an honorary title, Pasha, in one of its various ranks, is similar to a British peerage or knighthood, and was also one of the highest titles in pre-republican Egypt. There were three ranks of pashas: the first, or highest class, had the privilege of bearing a standard of three horse-tails, the second of two, and the third of one.

Pascha (; ; ; ; ; ) war im osmanischen Reich seit dem 15. Jahrhundert und im osmanischen Vizekönigreich Ägypten und dessen Nachfolgestaaten der Titel der höchsten Zivilbeamten und Militärs (vgl. z. B. Kapudan Pascha). Der Titel Pascha wurde dem Namen nachgestellt.

Pasja (Osmaans: ‏پاشا; Turks: Paşa; Engels: Pasha; Frans Pacha; Duits: Pascha; Italiaans: bassa of pascià), was in het Osmaanse rijk sinds de 15de eeuw tot 1935 een Ottomaanse titel voor de hoogste ambtenaren en militairen met generaalsrangen, militair onderscheiden door één, twee of drie paardenstaarten. De titel Pasja werd achter de naam geplaatst.

Le mot pacha (turc : , parfois transcrit pascha ou bashaw) est, dans le système politique de l'Empire ottoman, un titre de haut rang accordé aux gouverneurs de provinces et aux généraux. Dans l'univers ottoman, le terme « Pacha » avait en outre une valeur honorifique, équivalent de « Monseigneur », « Sir » ou « Voïvode ».
