Phantasma ( = Erscheinung, Bild, Vorstellung, Gesicht bzw. ein von der Gottheit gesandtes Vorzeichen, Wunder, Traumbild mit und ohne Traum, Gespenst, Geist) wird allgemein als eine mentale, innere
Vorstellung bezeichnet, oft auch abwertend im Sinne eines
Hirngespinstes oder
Trugbildes. Im deutschen Sprachraum bezeichnet Phantasma eine wahrnehmungsähnliche szenische Gegebenheit, psychiatrisch so viel wie
Illusion,
Pseudohalluzination und
Halluzination. Die Bezeichnung gilt als wenig gebraucht und altertümlich, vgl. Kap.

Mario Erdheim betrachtet das Phantasma sowohl von seiner negativen Funktion aus als auch aus der Sicht der Selbstbehauptung und Auflehnung gegen unwürdige Verhältnisse. In der französischen Psychiatrie bedeutet Phantasma allgemein so viel wie eine bildhafte Szene, in welcher der Betroffene einen Wunsch oder unbewussten Wunsch realisiert. Insofern besteht Gleichheit mit dem
Tagtraum. Der Begriff spielt eine wichtige Rolle im Kontext der
Psychoanalyse Jacques Lacans, wo er eine bestimmte Form der
imaginären Phantasie bezeichnet.
