Phase (von altgriechisch
phásis „Erscheinung, Aufgang eines Gestirns“) steht für:
- Zeitabschnitt, mehr oder weniger ausgedehnter Teil der Zeit als Dauer

Le mot
phase désigne l'état d'un phénomène, variable, voire cyclique, à un instant donné. Le terme fait partie du jargon de plusieurs sciences :
- en physique et en mécanique des ondes, la phase indique la situation instantanée d'une grandeur qui varie cycliquement ;
- en procédé de séparation :
- en thermodynamique, chimie, et science des matériaux, une phase est un milieu dans lequel les paramètres varient de manière continue ;
- dans un colloïde, on parle d'une phase continue et d'une phase dispersée
- en électricité, le mot phase désigne les « canaux » d'une même source de puissance alternative, entre lesquelles il y a un déphasage (deux à 180° en monophasé et trois à 120° en triphasé). Par assimilation, les électriciens utilisent également le mot phase pour désigner un des conducteurs d'une alimentation alternative et par abus de langage, on trouve de plus en plus l'usage du mot phases pour désigner des fils d'alimentation continue séparés par leurs propres étages de stabilisation respectifs. Notons que ce dernier usage n'a plus rien à voir avec le sens initial du mot "phase".
