A pie is a baked dish which is usually made of a pastry dough casing that covers or completely contains a filling of various sweet or savoury ingredients.

Proto-Indo-European (PIE) is the linguistic reconstruction of the common ancestor of the Indo-European languages. PIE was the first proposed proto-language to be widely accepted by linguists. Far more work has gone into reconstructing it than any other proto-language, and it is by far the best understood of all proto-languages of its age. During the 19th century, the vast majority of linguistic work was devoted to reconstruction of Proto-Indo-European or its daughter proto-languages such as Proto-Germanic, and most of the current techniques of linguistic reconstruction in historical linguistics (e.g. the comparative method and the method of internal reconstruction) were developed as a result. These methods supply all of our knowledge concerning PIE, since there is no written record of the language.

Die indogermanische Ursprache (oder indogermanische Grundsprache) ist die nicht belegte, aber durch sprachwissenschaftliche Methoden erschlossene gemeinsame Vorläuferin der indogermanischen Sprachen. Het getal , soms geschreven als pi, is een wiskundige constante, met in decimale notatie de getalswaarde 3,141 592 653... Deze waarde is de verhouding van omtrek en diameter van een cirkel.

Het Proto-Indo-Europees (PIE) is de hypothetische voorouder van alle Indo-Europese talen. Deze taal zou hooguit tot het 3e millennium voor Christus gesproken zijn, mogelijk in Anatolië en in het gebied rond de Kaspische Zee, alvorens uiteen te vallen in vele Europese, Iraanse en Zuid-Aziatische talen. Schriftelijke bewijzen ervan zijn nooit gevonden, maar van het bestaan ervan wordt sinds het begin van de 20e eeuw uitgegaan door taalkundigen.

L’indo-européen commun, proto-indo-européen ou seulement indo-européen (souvent abrégé en i.-e.), est une langue préhistorique, sans témoignage écrit, supposée être à l'origine de toutes les langues dites « indo-européennes ». Elle a été partiellement reconstruite à partir de la comparaison entre les langues, actuelles ou anciennes, qui en sont issues. Notre connaissance de l'indo-européen repose donc sur la linguistique comparée, et notamment sur la phonétique historique. On peut reconstruire quelques aspects de sa phonologie, de son lexique et de sa morphologie. Des recherches actuelles tentent de reconstituer quelques traits de sa syntaxe.
