plaintiff

A plaintiff (Π in legal shorthand) is the party who initiates a lawsuit (also known as an action) before a court. By doing so, the plaintiff seeks a legal remedy, and if successful, the court will issue judgment in favor of the plaintiff and make the appropriate court order (e.g., an order for damages). "Plaintiff" is the term used in civil cases in most English-speaking jurisdictions, the notable exception being England and Wales, where a plaintiff is called a "claimant". In criminal cases, the prosecutor brings the case against the defendant, but the key complaining party is often called the "complainant".

Kläger (bei juristischen Personen stets Klägerin) nennt man im Zivilprozess die Person, die gegen den Beklagten das Verfahren durch Klage einleitet. Auch in den Verfahren vor den Verwaltungs-, Sozial-, Arbeits- und Finanzgerichten bezeichnet man die Parteien als Kläger und Beklagter. Kläger können sich anwaltlich vertreten lassen, in bestimmten Fällen ist dies zwingend vorgeschrieben (Anwaltsprozess).

Eiser is de naam die in het burgerlijk procesrecht aan een procespartij wordt gegeven, die een civiele procedure begint. Het woord is afgeleid van eis: de eiser wil van de rechter een bepaalde beslissing.

Powód (łac.: actor) – osoba występująca w procesie cywilnym, a także karnym jako powód cywilny, z powództwem w poszukiwaniu ochrony prawnej. W trakcie rozprawy powód zajmuje miejsce po prawej stronie sądu (składu sędziowskiego).

Målsägande (även målsägare) är den mot vilken ett brott är begånget eller som blivit förnärmad eller lidit skada av brottet.
