Plastic is a material consisting of any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organics that are malleable and can be molded into solid objects of diverse shapes. Plastics are typically organic polymers of high molecular mass, but they often contain other substances. They are usually synthetic, most commonly derived from petrochemicals, but many are partially natural.  Plasticity is the general property of all materials that are able to irreversibly deform without breaking, but this occurs to such a degree with this class of moldable polymers that their name is an emphasis on this ability.

Als Kunststoffe (umgangssprachlich Plastik, Plast oder Plaste, selten Technopolymer) bezeichnet man Werkstoffe, die hauptsächlich aus Makromolekülen bestehen.

Plastic is een groepsnaam afkomstig uit het Engels, in het Nederlands heet het ook wel plastiek. Het woord wordt ook in de Nederlandse taal veel en in ruime zin gebruikt als alternatief voor "kunststoffen".

Le plastic est un type d'explosif très puissant composé d'hexogène (RDX) et/ou de penthrite, de liants (gomme styrène-butadiène), de plastifiants (bis-2-éthylhexyl-adipate ou -sébaçate) et parfois d'huile minérale. Le mélange RDX / penthrite est la base explosive du plastic d'origine tchèque Semtex.

Une matière plastique ou en langage courant un plastique, est un mélange contenant une matière de base (un polymère) qui est susceptible d'être moulé, façonné, en général à chaud et sous pression, afin de conduire à un semi-produit ou à un objet.
