polypus

A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue projecting from a mucous membrane. If it is attached to the surface by a narrow elongated stalk, it is said to be pedunculated. If no stalk is present, it is said to be sessile. Polyps are commonly found in the colon, stomach, nose, sinus(es), urinary bladder and uterus. They may also occur elsewhere in the body where mucous membranes exist like the cervix, vocal folds, and small intestine.

Polypen sind makroskopisch sichtbare, meist gestielte Ausstülpungen der Mukosa (Schleimhaut).

Een poliep is een zwelling met een bepaalde vorm, namelijk dikker aan het uiteinde dan aan de basis ('gesteeld'). De meeste poliepen zijn goedaardig hoewel maligne ontaarding bij sommige vormen (dikke-darmpoliepen) wel eens voorkomt. Poliepen bevinden zich meestal in de holte van een orgaan. Poliepen komen voor in onder meer het maag-darmkanaal, de neus- en de neusbijholten, het strottenhoofd, in de baarmoeder en op de baarmoedermond.

En médecine, un polype est une croissance anormale de tissus en saillie (adénome), ou tumeur bénigne, se développant sur les muqueuses. Certains sont plats (polypes sessiles), d'autres possèdent un pied plus ou moins long (polypes pédiculés).

Polip (łac.) polypus z gr. πολύπους/polypos – polip (w znaczeniu głowonóg, ośmiornica), polip (w znaczeniu: narośl, guz); z gr. πολύς /polys/ – przedrostek oznaczający m.in.: liczny, wielki + gr. πούς/pous – stopa, noga, łapa, macka, ramię – guzowaty twór patologiczny wyrastający z błon śluzowych wysłanych nabłonkiem gruczołowym, często mnogi (polipowatość).
