Porcelain is a ceramic material made by heating materials, generally including kaolin, in a kiln to temperatures between . The toughness, strength and translucence of porcelain, relative to other types of pottery, arises mainly from vitrification and the formation of the mineral mullite within the body at these high temperatures. Porcelain derives its present name from the old Italian porcellana (cowrie shell) because of its resemblance to the translucent surface of the shell. Porcelain can informally be referred to as china or fine china in some English-speaking countries, as China was the birthplace of porcelain making. Properties associated with porcelain include low permeability and elasticity; considerable strength, hardness, toughness, whiteness, translucency and resonance; and a high resistance to chemical attack and thermal shock. Porcelain has been described as being "completely vitrified, hard, impermeable (even before glazing), white or artificially coloured, translucent (except when of considerable thickness), and resonant." However, the term porcelain lacks a universal definition and has "been applied in a very unsystematic fashion to substances of diverse kinds which have only certain surface-qualities in common".

Glasiert oder unglasiert findet es Verwendung zur Herstellung von Gebrauchsgegenständen, technischen Erzeugnissen und für künstlerische Zwecke.

Se empezó a vender en Reino Unido el 12 de junio de 2000 y alcanzó el número 5 en las listas del mismo país. El estreno en EEUU fue el 22 de agosto. Forma parte de la banda sonora de la película "La Playa" (The Beach) y de la sintonía que Televisión Española utilizó para la continuidad de La 1 entre 2001 y 2004, y también fue utilizada para varios capítulos de la telenovela Yo soy Betty la fea. También se ha usado como música de calentamiento antes de los partidos del "Barclays ATP World Tour Finals" en Londres, además se utilizó en la parte final de un capítulo de la serie policiaca alemana Alerta Cobra , en el capítulo llamado "Querido Enemigo", perteneciente a la temporada 14. Porcelain contiene sonidos rítmicos de piano y solos de Moby, tiene voces adicionales de Pilar Basso y del merenguero dominicano Fernando Villalona.

Porselein is een bijzondere vorm van keramiek of pottenbakkerskunst. Voor het maken van porselein is veel kennis en ervaring vereist. Bij de samenstelling van porselein wordt kaolien, een weerbarstige, witte kleisoort, gebruikt, vermengd met kwarts en een veldspaat. Bij het bakken is een hoge temperatuur vereist. Porselein wordt daardoor hard, doorschijnend en klinkt helder.
