Porosity or void fraction is a measure of the void (i.e. "empty") spaces in a material, and is a fraction of the volume of voids over the total volume, between 0 and 1, or as a percentage between 0 and 100%. Strictly speaking, some tests measure the "accessible void," the total amount of void space accessible from the surface (cf. closed-cell foam). There are many ways to test porosity in a substance or part, such as industrial CT scanning. The term porosity is used in multiple fields including pharmaceutics, ceramics, metallurgy, materials, manufacturing, earth sciences, soil mechanics and engineering.

Porous ist eine deutsche Band aus Berlin. Seit 2000 spielen sie in der nebenstehend genannten Besetzung. Ursprünglich stammt die Band aus Neubrandenburg.

Die Porosität ist eine dimensionslose Messgröße und stellt das Verhältnis von Hohlraumvolumen zu Gesamtvolumen eines Stoffes oder Stoffgemisches dar. Sie dient als klassifizierendes Maß für die tatsächlich vorliegenden Hohlräume. Zur Anwendung kommt die Größe im Bereich der Werkstoff- und Bautechnik sowie in den Geowissenschaften. Die Porosität hat großen Einfluss auf die Dichte eines Materials sowie auf den Widerstand bei der Durchströmung einer Schüttung (Darcy-Gesetz).

Porositeit of poreusheid is de aanwezigheid van kleine openingen (poriën) in een materiaal. Men herkent er het woord "porie" (kleine opening) in. Porositeit heeft in het algemeen tot gevolg dat het materiaal langzaam vocht doorlaat. Ook opzuigen of omhoogzuigen van vocht door capillaire werking is mogelijk.

La porosité est l'ensemble des vides (pores) d'un matériau solide, ces vides sont remplis par des fluides (liquide ou gaz). C'est une grandeur physique qui conditionne les capacités d'écoulement et de rétention d'un substrat (voir aussi Loi de Darcy).
