La
psychologie (du grec
psukhê,
âme, et
logos,
parole) est l'étude des faits
psychiques, des
comportements et des
processus mentaux. C'est une discipline qui appartient à la catégorie des
sciences humaines. Divisée en de nombreuses branches d’étude aussi bien théoriques que pratiques, la psychologie a des applications
thérapeutiques individuelles ou collectives, sociales, et politiques ou
morales. Ayant pour objectif l'investigation de la structure et du fonctionnement du
psychisme, elle s'attache donc à décrire, évaluer et expliquer les processus mentaux dans leur ensemble, en prenant en compte les manifestations de la
subjectivité. La psychologie permet de déterminer à travers la
relation d'aide une solution permettant à l'individu de se comprendre soi-même et le
psychologue qui en est le praticien l'aide à trouver par lui même sa propre solution sans la lui apporter de façon évidente et explicite. La psychologie se distingue de la
psychanalyse et de la
psychiatrie en ceci qu'elle éclaire les mouvements sociaux et culturels des pays afin d'en déterminer en quoi ces facteurs environnementaux sont à l'origine de désordre psychique amenant à des comportements et des langages inappropriés par rapport à une
norme.
