RAID (originally redundant array of inexpensive disks, now commonly redundant array of independent disks) is a data storage virtualization technology that combines multiple physical disk drive components into a single logical unit for the purposes of data redundancy, performance improvement, or both.

RAID ist ein Akronym für engl. „Redundant Array of Independent Disks“, also „Redundante Anordnung unabhängiger Festplatten“ (ursprünglich engl. „Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks“; deutsch „Redundante Anordnung kostengünstiger Festplatten“; was aus Marketinggründen aufgegeben wurde). Ein RAID-System dient zur Organisation mehrerer physischer Massenspeicher (üblicherweise Festplattenlaufwerke oder Solid-State-Drives) zu einem logischen Laufwerk, das eine höhere Ausfallsicherheit oder einen größeren Datendurchsatz erlaubt als ein einzelnes physisches Speichermedium.

En  informática, el acrónimo RAID (del inglés Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks o, más común a día de hoy, Redundant Array of Independent Disks), traducido como «conjunto redundante de discos Independientes», hace referencia a un sistema de almacenamiento de datos en tiempo real que utiliza múltiples unidades de almacenamiento de datos (discos duros o SSD) entre los que se distribuyen o replican los datos. Dependiendo de su configuración (a la que suele llamarse «nivel»), los beneficios de un RAID respecto a un único disco son uno o varios de los siguientes: mayor integridad, mayor tolerancia a fallos, mayor throughput (rendimiento) y mayor capacidad. En sus implementaciones originales, su ventaja clave era la habilidad de combinar varios dispositivos de bajo coste y tecnología más antigua en un conjunto que ofrecía mayor capacidad, fiabilidad, velocidad o una combinación de éstas que un solo dispositivo de última generación y coste más alto.

RAID is een afkorting van redundant array of independent disks, ook bekend als redundant array of inexpensive disks (of drives) en is de benaming voor een set methodieken voor fysieke data-opslag op harde schijven waarbij de gegevens over meer schijven verdeeld worden, op meer dan één schijf worden opgeslagen, of beide, ten behoeve van snelheidswinst en/of beveiliging tegen gegevensverlies. Voor gamers wordt meestal RAID-0 gebruikt door de toename van snelheid. Servers gebruiken Raid1 of Raid5 voor betrouwbaarheid.
