Resentment (also called ranklement or bitterness), not classified among Paul Ekman's six basic emotions of surprise, disgust, happiness, sadness, anger, and fear, is the foundation of hatred. Resentment comprises the three basic emotions of disgust, sadness and surprise -the perception of injustice. Resentment is a mixture of disappointment, anger, and fear. As the surprise of injustice becomes less frequent, so too does anger and fear fade -leaving disappointment as the predominant emotion. So, to the extent perceived disgust and sadness remain, so too does the level of disappointment remain.

Aversion, Abneigung oder Ablehnung (lat.  ‚Abneigung‘, von ‚Ekel‘) bezeichnet die Neigung eines Menschen, auf bestimmte Reize seines Organismus mit Unlust zu reagieren. Eine Aversion kann gegenüber jeder Art von Reizen oder Objekten bestehen, zum Beispiel gegenüber bestimmten Menschen, Handlungen, Dingen (Nahrungsmitteln) oder Situationen und Erinnerungen. Eine Aversion ist meistens mit dem Antrieb verbunden, sich abzuwenden.

Denatonium, als Denatoniumbenzoat oder Denatoniumsaccharinat erhältlich, ist die bitterste bekannte Substanz (Bitterstoff). Entdeckt wurde Denatonium 1958 von dem schottischen Chemiker J. R. Smith bei der Suche nach Wirkstoffen für örtliche Betäubungen.
