Sailing comprises wind propulsion of a craft by means of sails and steering it over water, ice or land, depending on the type of craft. A sailor manages the force of the wind on the sails by adjusting their angle with respect to the moving sailing craft and sometimes by adjusting the sail area. The force transmitted from the sails is resisted by forces from the hull, keel, and rudder of a sailing craft, by forces from skate runners for an iceboat, and by forces from wheels for a land sailing craft to allow steering a course on a point of sail with respect to the true wind.

Sailing ist ein Gemälde des amerikanischen Malers Edward Hopper (1882–1967) aus dem Jahr 1911. Das in Öl auf Leinwand ausgeführte Werk mit den Maßen 61 × 74 cm befindet sich im Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh.

Segeln ist die Fortbewegung eines Segelschiffs oder eines Segelboots unter Nutzung der Windenergie. Segelschiffe hatten über viele Jahrhunderte weltweit eine große Bedeutung für Handel und Transport, Kriegsführung und Fischfang. Gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts begann ihre Verdrängung durch maschinengetriebene Schiffe, die von den Bedingungen des Wetters weniger abhängig waren und kürzere Fahrtzeiten, geringeres Personal und damit sinkende Transportkosten ermöglichten.

«Sailing» —en español: «Travesía»— es una canción del dúo británico The Sutherland Brothers Band, escrito por Gavin Sutherland para el disco Lifeboat de 1972. Sin embargo en 1975 se hizo más conocida por la versión hecha por el cantante Rod Stewart para su disco Atlantic Crossing, del cual se extrajo como el primer sencillo de éste.
