Le
salaire est un
revenu qui est payé à la
force de travail. La force de travail est employée un certain temps pour réaliser une certaine quantité de
travail. Le salaire peut être payé en argent, en nature et sous d'autres formes, en particulier sous forme d'assurances (chômage notamment, via les cotisations). Mais au bout du compte, le salaire correspond toujours à une certaine quantité de marchandises et de services marchands. C'est le salaire réel. Pour comparer les salaires réels entre eux, on doit mesurer le
pouvoir d'achat réel du salaire nominal, c'est-à-dire tenir compte du niveau des prix des marchandises de consommation.
