The Salian Franks, also called the Salians (Latin: Salii, Greek: Salioi), were the western subgroup of the early Franks who first appear in the historical records in the third century. At that time they lived between the Rhine and the IJssel in the modern day Dutch region of the Veluwe, Gelderland. As the Salians initially lived north of the Rhine delta, they were also north of the limes of Roman Gaul, which ran along the Rhine. They were characterised as both warlike Germanic people and pirates, and as Laeti (allies of the Romans). Shortly thereafter, some were settled permanently on Roman land. After moving into Batavia, a border island in the Rhine, in 358, they came to some form of agreement with the Romans, which allowed them to settle south of the Rhine in Toxandria (roughly the area of the current Dutch province of Noord-Brabant, and adjacent parts of the two bordering Belgian provinces of Antwerpen and Belgian Limburg, the so-called "Kempen" (French Campine)).

Die Salfranken (auch Salische Franken, Salier oder Westfranken) sind seit dem 4. Jahrhundert als eigenständiger Teilstamm der Franken bekannt. Sie siedelten ursprünglich vom Niederrhein bis zum Salland an der IJssel, siedelten sich dann in Toxandrien und später im Raum Tournai (Hennegau) an. Im 5. und 6. Jahrhundert eroberten sie unter dem Königsgeschlecht der Merowinger alle anderen fränkischen Teilstämme und andere benachbarte Gebiete und begründeten so das Frankenreich. In den antiken Quellen und daher manchmal auch in der Forschungsliteratur werden die Salfranken als „Salier“ (Salii) bezeichnet. Sie sind jedoch nicht mit dem Herrschergeschlecht der Salier aus dem Hochmittelalter zu verwechseln.

Salische Franken (of Saliërs) maakten deel uit van het Germaanse stamverband van de Franken.

Les Saliens sont les membres d'un des peuples germaniques qui constituent la ligue des Francs. Ce peuple vivait à l'origine sur la rive droite du Rhin, comme tous les autres peuples francs, à proximité de son embouchure quant à eux. Ils étaient voisins des Chamaves et des Bataves, autres peuples francs, mais aussi de deux autres peuples non francs, les Frisons et les Chauques.

Frankowie Saliccy – odłam Franków, drugi obok Franków rypuarskich, zamieszkujący tereny w pobliżu Morza Północnego pomiędzy Mozą a Skaldą, czyli w tzw. Toksandrii. Z tego odłamu wywodzi się dynastia Merowingów.
