Saw
A saw is a tool consisting of a tough blade, wire, or chain with a hard toothed edge. It is used to cut through material, most often wood. The cut is made by placing the toothed edge against the material and moving it forcefully forth and less forcefully back or continuously forward. This force may be applied by hand, or powered by steam, water, electricity or other power source. An abrasive saw has a powered circular blade designed to cut through metal.

Das Zersägen ist eine Marter- und Hinrichtungsart, von der etliche Heiligenlegenden berichten. Vermutlich ist eine derartige Strafe jedoch niemals verhängt worden.

Klieven (doodstraf)
Klieven is een reeds sinds lange tijd verdwenen executiemethode waarbij de veroordeelde levend in tweeën werd gespleten. Deze manier van executeren werd toegepast in Europa in de tijd van het Romeinse Rijk, in het Midden-Oosten en in Azië. In een aantal Europese landen, waaronder Duitsland, werd het klieven toegepast tot in de Middeleeuwen. .

Sahaaminen (teloitusmenetelmä)
Sahaaminen on historiallinen kidutus- ja teloitusmenetelmä. Tuomittu ripustettiin roikkumaan jaloistaan ja hänet sahattiin kahtia jalkovälistä alkaen. Koska tuomittu roikkui ylösalaisin, aivot saivat verta eikä hän kuollut verenhukkaan. Uhri saattoi säilyä hengissä ja tajuissaan, kunnes saha rikkoi alavatsan suuria verisuonia – joskus pitempäänkin. Aasian maissa tuomittu seisoi teloituksen aikana ja sahaus aloitettiin päästä, mikä johti paljon nopeampaan kuolemaan.
