scientific discipline

The branches of science (also referred to as "sciences", "scientific fields", or "scientific disciplines") are commonly divided into four major groups: natural sciences, which study natural phenomena (including fundamental forces and biological life), formal sciences (such as mathematics and logic, which use an a priori, as opposed to factual, methodology), social sciences, which study human behavior and societies, and applied sciences, which apply existing scientific knowledge to develop more practical applications, like technology or inventions.

Studiengang heißt die Gesamtheit der Lehrinhalte eines wissenschaftlichen Studienfaches an einer Hochschule. Durchläuft man einen Studiengang erfolgreich, erhält man einen Studienabschluss (Hochschulabschluss). Das Curriculum eines Studienganges wird durch die Studienordnung, die Prüfungsleistungen und der Abschluss durch die Prüfungsordnung definiert.

Seznam vedních disciplín obsahuje abecední soupis nauk, oboru a pomocných ved, které splnují definici vedy. Seznam není definitivní, protože vznikají nové vedy (casto interdisciplinární) a starší vedy mohou být transformovány do nových (napr. alchymie do chemie), ci zavrhnuty po jejich kompromitaci (napr. pseudovedy nebo vedy zatížené ideologií).
