silk

SILK is an audio compression format and audio codec developed by Skype Limited. It was developed for use in Skype, as a replacement for the SVOPC codec. Since licensing out, it has also been used by others. It has been extended to the Internet standard Opus codec.

Silk is a natural protein fiber, some forms of which can be woven into textiles. The protein fiber of silk is composed mainly of fibroin and is produced by certain insect larvae to form cocoons. The best-known silk is obtained from the cocoons of the larvae of the mulberry silkworm Bombyx mori reared in captivity (sericulture). The shimmering appearance of silk is due to the triangular prism-like structure of the silk fibre, which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles, thus producing different colors.

SILK ist ein Datenformat/Verfahren zur verlustbehafteten Audiodatenkompression von Sprachsignalen. Es basiert auf Linear Predictive Coding (LPC). Es wurde von Koen Vos, Søren Skak Jensen und Karsten Vandborg Sørensen für das Unternehmen Skype Technologies S.A. für deren IP-Telephonie-Software Skype entwickelt, das Software-Patente an dem Verfahren hält.

Seide (von mittellateinisch seta) ist eine feine Faser, die aus den Kokons der Seidenraupe, der Larve des Seidenspinners, gewonnen wird. Sie ist die einzige in der Natur vorkommende textile Endlos-Faser und besteht hauptsächlich aus Protein. Sie kommt ursprünglich vermutlich aus China und war eine wichtige Handelsware, die über die Seidenstraße nach Europa transportiert wurde. Neben China, wo heute noch der Hauptanteil produziert wird, sind Japan und Indien weitere wichtige Erzeugerländer, in denen der Seidenbau betrieben wird.

Silk (en España: Seda, en México: Retrato de amor) es una película dirigida por François Girard coproducida por Canadá, Italia y Japón y estrenada en marzo del 2008 en España e Hispanoamérica. La película se basa en la novela Seda, que escribió el italiano Alessandro Baricco en 1996 bajo el título original Seta. En el reparto destacan las presencias de Keira Knightley y de Michael Pitt.

Zijde is een natuurlijke substantie die wordt afgescheiden door bepaalde insecten en stolt bij contact met de lucht. Het bekendst voor haar productie is de zijderups (Bombyx mori), ze behoort tot de orde van de Lepidoptera of schubvleugeligen. Er zijn ook bepaalde spinnen die geschikt zijn voor de zijdeteelt. Terwijl de rupsen er hun cocon mee maken, weven spinnen er hun web van.

SILK est un format de compression audio format et codec utilisé par Skype. Il a été développé par  Skype Technologies. Il vient en remplacement d'un autre codec SVOPC codec.

La soie est une fibre textile d'origine animale produite par de nombreux arthropodes, araignées et chenilles de certains papillons notamment (Yponomeutes, bombyx). Celle qui sert à produire des tissus de soie est issue du cocon produit par la chenille (ver à soie) du bombyx du mûrier (Bombix mori) pour la soie de culture, et du ver à soie Tussah (plusieurs espèces de chenilles du genre Antheraea) pour la soie sauvage.
