Somatosensory system
The somatosensory system, also known as somatic senses, touch or tactile perception, is a complex sensory system. It is considered one of the five traditional senses. It is made up of a number of different receptors, including thermoreceptors, photoreceptors, mechanoreceptors and chemoreceptors. It also comprises essential processing centres, or sensory modalities, such as proprioception, mechanoreception (touch), thermoception (temperature), and nociception (pain). The sensory receptors cover the skin and epithelial tissues, skeletal muscles, bones and joints, internal organs, and the cardiovascular system.

Känsel
Känsel eller det somatosensoriska systemet är ett sensoriskt system som detekterar impulser som brukar benämnas känsel eller tryck, temperatur (varmt eller kallt), smärta (inklusive kliande och kittlande känslor) liksom proprioception vilket är musklernas läge vilket hjälper till att bedöma rumsuppfattningen.

Соматосенсорная система
Соматосенсо́рная система — одна из систем организма высших животных, отвечающая за контроль пространственного положения частей тела между собой. Необходима для выполнения сложных движений, управляемых корой головного мозга. Основным проявлением деятельности сематосенсорной системы является так называемое «мышечное чувство».

מערכת המגע
מערכת המגע (Tactile system) היא מערכת החישה האחראית על חוש המישוש. היא מעבירה מידע, המתקבל מהסביבה באמצעות קולטנים הנמצאים בעור, אל המוח. זו המערכת הנרחבת ביותר בגוף מכיוון שהעור מכסה את כל הגוף, כאשר ישנם אזורים רגישים יותר ופחות. בעור ישנם חיישנים שקולטים מידע על מגע, לחץ, מרקם, טמפרטורה וכאב. המידע מגיע כל הזמן אל המוח, אך רק חלק ממנו מגיע למודעות. הגירויים עוברים דרך מערכת העצבים ההיקפית והמסלולים החישתיים לגזע המוח וממנו לקליפת המוח החישתית. מערכת המגע מגיעה לבשלות מוקדם יותר ממערכות החישה האחרות, היא מתפתחת אצל העובר כבר בשבוע השמיני להריון.
