The Securing the Protection of our Enduring and Established Constitutional Heritage (SPEECH) Act is a federal statutory law in the United States that makes foreign libel judgments unenforceable in U.S. courts, unless either the legislation applied offers at least as much protection as the U.S. First Amendment (concerning free speech), or the defendant would have been found liable even if the case had been heard under U.S. law.

A speech act in linguistics and the philosophy of language is an utterance that has performative function in language and communication. According to Kent Bach, "almost any speech act is really the performance of several acts at once, distinguished by different aspects of the speaker's intention: there is the act of saying something, what one does in saying it, such as requesting or promising, and how one is trying to affect one's audience." The contemporary use of the term goes back to J. L. Austin's development of performative utterances and his theory of locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts. Speech acts are commonly taken to include such acts as promising, ordering, greeting, warning, inviting and congratulating.

Die Sprechakttheorien oder Sprechhandlungstheorien thematisieren als Teilbereiche der linguistischen Pragmatik sprachliche Äußerungen, z. B. Reden, die nicht nur Sachverhalte beschreiben und Behauptungen aufstellen, sondern zugleich selbst Handlungen (Akte) vollziehen. Demnach sind Befehle, Namensgebungen, Eide, Versprechen, Warnungen, Beleidigungen u. ä. aktive Veränderungen der Realität. Die vor allem in den 1950er und 60er Jahren auf der Grundlage dieser Theorie publizierten Abhandlungen analysieren und klassifizieren solche sprachlichen Handlungen und deren Implikationen. Zu den wichtigsten Vertretern zählen John Langshaw Austin (How to Do Things with Words) und John Searle.

Een taalhandeling of taaldaad (Engels: speech act) is een handeling die plaatsvindt omdat men iets zegt met een zeker doel voor ogen. Een taalhandeling is een bepaald soort Intentionele handeling waarover John Searle spreekt in zijn boek Intentionality. Een taalhandeling is mede gebaseerd op het coöperatief principe. Een bijzondere taalhandeling is de fatische communicatie. Hierbij heeft de taal geen semantische maar een sociale betekenis. Het praten op zich is dan vaak de enige boodschap, het enige wat men communiceert. De fenomenoloog Adolf Reinach ontwikkelde in 1913 een omvattende theorie van sociale handelingen, inclusief taalhandelingen. Later pasten John Austin en zijn student John Searle het begrip taalhandelingen toe op alledaagse gesproken taal.

Un acte de langage (ou acte de parole) est un moyen mis en œuvre par un locuteur pour agir sur son environnement par ses mots : il cherche à informer, inciter, demander, convaincre, promettre, etc. son ou ses interlocuteurs par ce moyen.
