superfamily

A superfamily refers to different concepts in different scientific fields:

• Superfamily (molecular biology), a large group of related proteins or other molecules
  • Ras superfamily of GTPases
  • PA clan of proteases
  • TIM barrel superfamily of hydrolases
  • Alkaline phosphatase superfamily of hydrolases
• Superfamily (proteins), a database of annotation for all proteins
• Superfamily (zoology), a level of biological classification in zoology

SUPERFAMILY is a database of structural and functional annotation for all proteins and genomes. SUPERFAMILY classifies amino acid sequences into known structural domains, especially into SCOP superfamilies. The superfamilies are groups of proteins which have structural evidence to support a common evolutionary ancestor but may not have detectable sequence homology.

Unterordnung bezeichnet:

• in der Biologie einen taxonomischen Rang (lateinisch: subordo) zwischen Ordnung und Familie
• das Zurücktreten der eigenen Person hinter einer Sache, bzw. in Verbindung mit Gehorsam oder sozialen Normen
• in der Grammatik wird bei Unterordnung (Subordination) von Teilsätzen ein Nebensatz mit einem Hauptsatz zu einem Satzgefüge zusammengesetzt
• das Verhalten eines Haushunds gegenüber seinem Halter oder Hundeführer, siehe Gebrauchshundprüfung

In de taxonomie is een onderorde een rang of een taxon in die rang. Een onderorde is een rang lager dan een orde. De manier om met rangen om te gaan verschilt voor plantkunde enigszins van die voor zoölogie.

En biologie, un sous-ordre est un niveau intermédiaire, immédiatement inférieur à la catégorie ordre de la classification classique des êtres vivants (voir systématique).

Kategoria systematyczna, kategoria taksonomiczna, ranga taksonomiczna – w systematyce organizmów, pozycja (ranga) taksonu w hierarchicznym systemie klasyfikacji biologicznej (układzie systematycznym) obejmująca dany takson oraz wszystkie zaliczane do niego taksony niższego poziomu.
