SCALPEL (Small Contained-Area Laser Precision Energetic Load) is a laser-guided bomb produced by Lockheed Martin. The weapon is being developed from the Enhanced Laser Guided Training Round (E-LGTR) which is the training version of the Paveway II series of bombs. The rationale behind the system is to provide a light, low-collateral damage weapon which can utilise the infrastructure and platform integration already in place for the E-LGTR system. On 14 March 2010, the US Navy announced its intention to purchase Scalpel.

A scalpel, or lancet, is a small and extremely sharp bladed instrument used for surgery, anatomical dissection, and various arts and crafts (called a hobby knife). Scalpels may be single-use disposable or re-usable. Re-usable scalpels can have permanently attached blades that can be sharpened or, more commonly, removable single-use blades. Disposable scalpels usually have a plastic handle with an extensible blade (like a utility knife) and are used once, then the entire instrument discarded. Scalpel blades are usually individually packed in sterile pouches but are also offered non-sterile. Double-edged scalpels are referred to as "lancets".

Ein Skalpell (von ‚Lanzette der Ärzte‘, Diminutiv von scalprum ‚Schnitzmesser‘, ‚Meißel‘) ist ein chirurgisches Instrument zum scharfen Durchtrennen von Geweben. Während früher in der Chirurgie die Instrumente nach der Reinigung und Sterilisation wiederverwendet wurden, finden heute überwiegend Einmal-Instrumente Anwendung. Dabei wird beim Skalpell lediglich das Blatt erneuert und der Griff wiederverwendet.

Een scalpel is een medisch hulpmiddel. Het is een zeer scherp mes, meestal voor gebruik in de chirurgie, dat zeer nauwkeurig elk soort weefsel kan doorklieven. In België wordt een scalpel soms ook een bistouri genoemd.

Używany w chirurgii do cięcia tkanek miękkich, ale i wszędzie tam, gdzie jego cechy mogą być szczególnie przydatne, np. w modelarstwie, poligrafii.
