Thermometer
A thermometer is a device that measures temperature or a temperature gradient. A thermometer has two important elements: (1) a temperature sensor (e.g. the bulb on a mercury-in-glass thermometer) in which some physical change occurs with temperature, and (2) some means of converting this physical change into a numerical value (e.g. the visible scale that is marked on a mercury-in-glass thermometer).

دماسنج
دماسنج، وسیله‌ای است که بر مبنای واحدهای مختلف دما را اندازه می‌گیرد.با استفاده از دماسنج ها میتوان دما رااندازه گرفت.برای مثال میتوان دمای بدن خودرا اندازه بگیریم. دماسنج های الکلی وجیوه ای رایج ترین دماسنج هااندکه با منبسط شدن جیوه یا الکل درون مخزنشان کار میکند. اندازه‌گیری دما توسط دماسنج‌های جیوه‌ای و الکلی برای دماهایی امکان‌پذیر است که بالاتر از نقطهٔ انجماد و پایین‌تر از نقطهٔ جوش مایع درون دماسنج باشدکه معمولاً دماسنج‌های الکلی دماهای +۷۸ الی -۱۶۵ را می‌توانند نشان دهند و برای اندازه‌گیری دماهای بالاتر باید از دماسنج‌های ترموکوپلی و آذرسنج‌ها استفاده نمود.
