Thought can refer to the ideas or arrangements of ideas that result from thinking, the act of producing thoughts, or the process of producing thoughts. Although thought is a fundamental human activity familiar to everyone, there is no generally accepted agreement as to what thought is or how it is created. Thoughts may or may not arise in the mind from the product of subconscious brain processing.

Unter Denken werden alle Vorgänge zusammengefasst, die aus einer inneren Beschäftigung mit Vorstellungen, Erinnerungen und Begriffen eine Erkenntnis zu formen versuchen. Bewusst werden dabei meist nur die Endprodukte des Denkens, nicht die Denkprozesse, die sie hervorbringen. Introspektive Vermutungen – Lautes Denken – sind jedoch sehr unzuverlässig.

Denken kan omschreven worden als een innerlijk of mentaal proces waarbij een beeld of voorstelling (van iets of iemand), herinnering (van iets of iemand), of idee (inzicht, begrip, plan) wordt gevormd. Nadenken, overwegen, zich te binnen roepen zijn aan denken verwante begrippen.

Au sens large, la pensée est une activité psychique, consciente dans son ensemble, qui recouvre les processus par lesquels sont élaborés, en réponse aux perceptions venues des sens, des images, des sensations, des concepts que l'être humain associe pour apprendre, créer et agir.
